Moving to a new city after selling your home can be nerve-wracking not only for adults, but for children as well. It’s important for parents to properly transition their children to new environments, such as schools and daycare facilities. When parents work, childcare becomes very important. They want their children to thrive in a nurturing and safe environment, but finding such a facility can be a challenge.
How do you find a childcare facility that will provide your children with a nurturing environment and keep them safe while you’re at work? After you’ve moved with the help of a New Jersey realtor, here are some things to consider when searching for the right facility that meets the needs of you and your children.
Find Out What is Important to You
Before you start your search, make a list of things that are important to you. For example, do you need a facility that is open later due to your work schedule? Are you looking for a specific program for your child? Each childcare center is different. There are varying rules and policies for each one, so take the time to figure out what you truly need in a facility so your child will grow.
Safety is Key
You should feel at peace knowing that your child is safe at daycare. Find several facilities you are interested in and tour them. Observe the caregivers as the children are outside, as well as when the children are sleeping. Is there someone watching them at all times? Even children who are sleeping need to be checked on frequently, in case they wake up and injure themselves. At least one caregiver at any given time should have first aid and CPR training in the event of an emergency.
Children need one-on-one attention throughout the day. Make sure your children feel comfortable in the facility. Do they play with the other kids? Do the caregivers address your children and talk to them? When your children talk to the caregivers, do they respond? If it seems as though your children aren’t getting enough attention or are feeling ignored, the facility may have too many children. Find one that will make your child feel important.
Ask About Toys and Materials
When you visit a childcare facility, you should see children playing with toys, books and other materials. If the provider isn’t letting children engage in activities other than watching TV, your child isn’t going to develop skills. You should see areas dedicated to various materials, such as art, music, math, books and puzzles. Even infants should have access to brightly-colored toys of different textures. Check the toys to ensure they are safe and age-appropriate.
